Italian Design #Piero Lissoni

Piero Lissoni continues a long tradition in modern Italian architecture that links all aspects of design. Many of the great classics of Italian design are the work of architects who focused their career on product design, such as Vico Magistretti, author of the Eclisse lamp, or the Castiglioni brothers, authors of the Arco lamp. Following the command of Ernesto Nathan Rogers, director of Casabella in the fifties, of designing “from the spoon to the city”, Lissoni has designed from wristwatches to yachts and the work of his studio includes architecture, interior design, product design, graphic design and art direction.

Piero Lissoni started his career with Nicoletta Canesi in 1986 working with Milanese design firms, for which he made pieces of furniture, stands and art direction. Among his best-known pieces from that early era are the Bibliotech bookshelf for Porro or the Dorian sofa for Living Divani.

In 1996, Lissoni opened a branch dedicated to graphic design, specialized in corporate identity for design firms, although it included events such as the Venice Film Festival among its clients.

Piero Lissoni’s studio has been dedicated to architecture in parallel to design, beginning his career with stands and showrooms for companies linked to design, such as Boffi or Living Divani. From 2000 on, he has received large orders worldwide, mainly hotels and corporate headquarters as Boffi headquarters in Lentate, combined with some high-end houses, such as the Fantini house in Pella.

Piero Lissoni is currently one of the most prominent names in the Milanese design scene, with pieces such as the Piuma chair for Kartell, with which he obtained an honorable mention in the Compasso d’Oro and the Red Dot Award in 2017.
