Cave CASA DECOR | GÓMEZ GRAU

Madrid 2025

Cave is a space conceived as a lobby that explores and showcases the expressive potential of natural stone. Through the combination of various types of rock, textures and chromatic contrasts, it creates a multisensory experience, connecting with nature and the forces that shape the landscape.

The installation is divided into two contrasting areas. The first is a bright, enveloping environment that evokes the sensation of an excavation in a quarry. This space is built with light-coloured stones, where natural light flows gently, enhancing the vibrancy of the marble-like textures. More than just a transit area, it functions as a place for contemplation, where stone blocks are transformed into benches and sofas. Their surfaces, often with irregular edges resulting from extraction cuts, reinforce the sense of the primitive and organic.

In contrast, the second space is dark and backlit. Here, a black quartzite creates a dense, almost volcanic atmosphere. The lighting, filtered through onyx, evokes the incandescent glow of lava.
The design draws inspiration from the fragmented geometry of strata and quarry excavations. A ceiling structure made of mouldings follows the generating lines of the composition, organising the space and suspending the installation.

The contrast between both zones is enhanced by the finishes, alternating between opaque and translucent surfaces. This visual play is complemented by a deeper sensory experience: a specially composed musical score intensifies the atmosphere, while carefully selected scents evoke the natural environment. Everything is designed to convey the majesty of nature, allowing visitors to experience the presence of mountains and rocks in an immersive way.
