Apartaments building in Jávea
In a special location in front of the Mediterranean Sea, in a developed area, but of little density, arises the possibility to carry out a reinterpretation of the typical coastal apartment blocks. This is a stimulating opportunity to make new approaches and study different designs to sea front construction.
A peaceful design is the objective, connected to the environment where it is situated, respecting the surrounding vegetation and adapting to the irregular topography and morphology of the site.
One of the determining factors of the project has been the Roman archaeological site that was found during excavation. Because of its historical value, it was decided to respect the find, adapting the new construction to these limits.
We propose a detached block complex with a defined perimeter that is intensely treated on all of the facades. The irregularities of the land will be absorbed by a foundation of facing masonry from the region, from where white vertical walls will be built and will mark the layout of the pieces. This generates the three blocks with three residences in each one. Between these walls will appears the facade of the building in a more lively way, wood for the horizontal elements and glass for the vertical perimeters. The building will open towards the best view, the sea, and will be facing the southeast by overhanging terraces that will boost the sensation of weightlessness, bringing you nearer to the sea.
On the opposite side, the communications centre will be placed, with an outward appearance following the same standards as the principal front facing wall. The access walkways will be presented as wooden walkways from where one can gain access to each residence from the outside. Adjustable lattices will enclose the residences in this direction, filtering the light and controlling the views.
These residences will have pure white lines and very high ceilings, with floor to ceiling carpentry that diffuses the limits between the rooms and accentuates the interior-exterior relation.
The structure disappears, the separation blurs and the views open towards the horizon, extending the floor plan by great wooden overhanging balconies that try to reach the sea.
