Apartment in Town
Settled in q flat’s building in the city of Valencia. It was decided to focus the main area of the house to the backyard, and keeping in the opposite side the rest of the rooms to the street side. This main area consists of a sequence of linked rooms where its importance is reflected in their height. Huge openings increase the scale. The notion of “room-apartment” is lost. Three big parasols made of steel and wood, help to preserve the intimacy and not only strengthen this loss of references we talked about, but also regulate the light and draw out the views from the adjacent buildings. As we pass through the doorway, we forget that the house is downtown. The presence of water, flowing through the courtyard’s wall, eliminates all urban sounds and the courtyard’s vegetation carry us and evade the metropolis. But the different element in this apartment is the exterior space next to the swimming pool. A closed volume, as an entity itself, where an ethereal and light atmosphere is created, promoted by the access of a zenith light, in the same way as in the thermal baths.
