Valencia del Mar Open Contest

We are proposing to create an infrastructure that allows Valencia to consolidate as one of the main cities of the Mediterranean context regarding economic activity, culture and leisure development.
The strategy of intention is clear and intense, we bank on keeping the strong architectonic scale of the harbour, where we include our functional program in contrast with a vertical and light building. This building takes the responsibility to transmit a new image of lightness, transparency and strength.
The proposal bets on the reconciliation of the city and its past, saving the historical fracture between the urban weft and the harbour, allowing the contemporary high quality residential weft to emerge naturally alongside the green area that has to become the old Turia river bed.
Wherever the City yearns to become Harbour the dock folds up with the scale and the dimension the harbour’s beauty: great borders, precise geometries. The aerial buildings land gently on this ground with the same formal independence as the boats moors to the pier.
Wherever the City yearns to become Nature, the site – this time subtle topographies covered in green – incorporates the establishments of the smaller neighbourhoods, the accesses to underground parking and to the residential plinth. The residential towers emerge, clearly anchored to this site, in the same natural way the trees sinks its roots into the ground.
Wherever the City is already City, profit is taken from this clear dialogue among “giants”. Its borders are organized by the arrival of the port’s scale coming from the sea and at the same time take advantage of the nature introduced by the River Bed.
The organization of the traffic, functions, buildings and free spaces is based on the logic of this conceptual planning.
