New La Fe Hospital

This project was carried out by AIDHOS ARQUITECT in collaboration with Ramon Esteve Estudio de Arquitectura, AIDHOS is an office architect based in Madrid with a wide and a large experience in hospital projects throughout along Spain.
It was planned to build a single building, composed by four blocks linked between them through a long basement, finally we can see four different buildings which are medical care centre or Hospital itself, educational hospital centre, investigation centre and facilities centre.
The medical care building is the biggest of the four and is composed by a three storey building (including the basement), from this vast basement emerges six parallel towers that accommodate the corresponding areas for clinical services.  The clinical services are layout by knowledge areas per floor; every floor has all the assistance medical services so we avoid vertical commuting for the personnel.
As a result four of these towers are occupied by the hospitalisation units plus the administration services. The other two towers are for the outpatient department, special exploration areas and special clinical services.
Detached from the basement we can find the second tower (investigation centre). Based in this tower are the Central laboratories for clinical test and the Investigation centre.
The third building is the school and management hospital which is independent of the towers but linked through the basement as the rest of the towers.
The hospital will have 856 beds for acute patients, 48 number of beds for short stay patients and 99 beds for critical patients.
In the same way the hospital will count on 28 number of beds and 113 posts for day hospital as well as 195 rooms for outpatient department and 116 for special explorations.
The hospital will layout 35 number of operating rooms, 30 resuscitation beds and 40 beds for surgical awaking. The unit of “surgery without check in” will be provided with 30 beds and 60 resuscitation beds.
Emergency services will have 39 numbers of boxes for treatment and diagnostic and 34 observation beds. It will be 1950 number of parking spaces.
The hospital will receive more than 9000 visitors, an amount of 3.000.000 per year.
Regarding the hospital technology and image diagnosis, we have several rooms which includes 41 rooms for traditional radiology and operation radiology. 16 rooms for scan, 3 for nuclear magnetic resonance and also we contain with 5 emergency teams.
Nuclear medicine service is composed by 4 gamma chambers, 1 cyclotron, 1positron emission tomography, and 4 lineal accelerators for cancer radiotherapy.
The construction area for assistance is 161.485 sm, the rest of the buildings will have 28790 sm
The building is made to be easily adaptable to any changes in the field of medical advances and contains the most advanced facilities for investigation, treatment and detection.
Visually the building is made of a powerful image treated within modern and contemporary architectural language. The great volumes of prefab white concrete generates a building group performing a rich and functional space.
