Max Aub Primary School
The intervention in a site where and old school is located solves the new functional program incorporating a new building with the refurbishment of the old one. The different buildings have an interaction between them around a compact core. The entire functional program is laid out by this main central core.
The irregular plot, the adequate conditions of sunlight and the pre-existing building determinate the proposal for this project.
The options are to take the whole primary school program to the three storey floor pre-existing building and locate the rest of the functional program in new buildings. A detached building organizes every part of the school, the pre-existing building as well as the rest of the parts, gymnasium and dining room.
The access to the school is given by a wide porch connected to the new building; this porch is related to every volume forming the entire group. The communication through the patios gives to the different buildings a marked independence as well as lightness and comfort.
The façade courtyards or patios give character to the building as they are inserted into the façade creating a coloured order that modulates the entire building. These patios light the corridors of the school marking the different functional areas and making easy the understanding and circulations of the school.
