Hort de Palau Primary School
The basis to make this project is determined by the shape and topography of the site, a rectangular and uneven plot. The purpose of the project is to build a school centre for elementary and infant school.
The main access from the street to the site is by the shorter side of the rectangular plot that also fits in the lowest level of the plot. As a result from this point we fix a longitudinal axle from which we lay out all the buildings containing the entire functional program as gymnasium, dining room, classrooms, etc.
Every building is settled alternatively from the main axle specifying the external spaces and adapting all the spaces for different uses.
The project is developed in five volumes which are the infant school, elementary school, administration centre, gymnasium and dinning room. The size of the buildings vary in height depending on the use although keeping the proportion of the buildings created on the basis of a rectangular grid. All the buildings are connected by a horizontal porch where we can find the main entrance to the centre and also the hall which lays out all the classrooms.
In the block for infant school, the corridor is wider to receive the coloured entrances of the classrooms; this colour is appreciated from the outside.
The building for elemental school is provided by coloured patios between classrooms with two functions, one is to light and the second one is to ventilate the main corridor, the entrance is highlighted using the same code of colours.
The façade is made out of white prefab concrete panels, a material that gives to the whole group a sensation of well located among the vegetation. The white blocks appear like big white cubes with holes, the light is filtered with a metallic mesh arranged as an external skin to the building.
The group of volumes is laid out by a white concrete porch related to the entrance and the lobby giving unity to the group. This lobby creates a global view with a beautiful and unit view.
